Question:

DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT to POLLUTE MORE THAN A 3rd WORLD CITIZEN?

iN A WORLD IN RISK OF EXTINCTION, TRADING FREELY MEANS CARING ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES IN ALL ASPECTS, EVEN BY POLLUTING LESS. A TREATY ENFORCED AND SIGNED BY ALL COUNTRIES WILL BE NECESSARY.

If the predicted amount of CO2 for 2030 is confirmed, we’ll have 55% more CO2 and a 4° C temperature increase (which is the difference of temperature we’ve had between now and the Ice Age). It would probably destroy the world economy, animal and vegetal species, and threaten mankind.

IF YES, WHY WOULD ANY COUNTRY IN THE 3RD WORLD SIGN A TREATY TO REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS? WHY WOULD THEY SIGN A TREATY WITH UNEVEN CONDITIONS?

IF NOT, WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO STOP USING YOUR CAR SO THAT YOU POLLUTE AS MUCH AS ANY CITIZEN IN THE WORLD? WILL WE HAVE TO REDESIGN OUR CITIES, CONSUMPTION STANDARDS AND LIFESTYLE?

  1. I'm guessing you're complaining about the US's lack of participation in various international climate agreements such as the Kyoto protocol.

Well, I think you need to first notice something; the definition of 'developing countries'.  See, I think you are assuming that developing countries don't pollute or something, because that's not the case.

One of the US's biggest disagreements with the Kyoto protocol is that countries like China and India are considered developing and don't have to follow it, even though they are slated to be huge polluters.  Well that was back in the 90's, and guess what, the US was right.  China is now the largest polluter in the world, contributing increasingly more CO2 than the US.  India isn't that far behind.  China is going unchecked, opening a new coal power plant every week without many of the pollution controls commonly implemented in the US.  But guess what, everyone still wants to attack the US, and blame everything on them.

Given their large populations, if China and India continue to develop without regard to climate controls, their contribution will far out weigh the rest of the worlds well before they are even considered to be truly industrialized nations.

And could you please tell me where you got the info that claimed we'll have 55% more CO2 and be 4 degrees warmer by 2030?  I think that is an overly pessimistic model and probably is not even close to being accurate.  I don't even think the IPCC claims anything like that.  Oh, and we're currently in an ice age (note the ice caps and glaciers), so I think you mean the temperature difference between our current interglacial period and the last glacial period.  I wonder how much warmer it was before this ice age?

  2. Absolutely not.  Third World citizens should have the right to pollute just as much as First World citizens.

  3. No, I don't have the right.  I think everyone has the onus upon them to curb there carbon emissions.

  5. No one has the 'right' to knowingly pollute. Developed countries must also take responsibility for past pre-education pollution just as developing countries must stop living in denial and get their own back yards cleaned up too. Quibbling over the cash while Rome burns!

  6. The governments are stupid... the only reason we pollute is because mankind is not kind and is very stupid when it comes to our planet and enviorment *-*

  7. Rights do not really exist.  They are legal niceties.

What we unfortunately have is more opportunity to pollute.
