  1. Well, yes, as an American living in Mexico, you WILL need your passport...the landlord, the bank. immigration office...all want to see your passport for all transactions or business.  You will also need a visa to live in Mexico.  You must have and maintain a current passport to be able to have a visa to Mexico. You can go on a 6 month tourist card, but need to return to the border every 6 months to renew it.  If you want to live in Mexico, you must apply for an FM3 visa at the nearest Mexican consulate in the U.S. before coming to Mexico.  You will need to have proof of sufficient monthly income from the states ( about $1200.00 ) a month  to qualify for the visa.  If you are planning to retire in Mexico and have a pension...that works. If you need to work in Mexico...bad idea.  You must have a work visa and they are VERY dificult to get.  Wages are extremely low.  See site below for list of Mexican consulates in the U.S.

  2. yes because if u were born in the US then u need to have a passaport, but if u were born in mexico u don't!!!!!!

  3. yes you will need a passport anytime you leave the U.S. now after you get there and live there for a while you wont really "need" to have it anymore but its always nice...
