DO you believe most speeding tickets are written by cops who really like the power or to subsidize Counties?

I mean there are 60 cars going 70 in 55 but they pick one car that looks expensive and is from another county going slower than all other cars and show the driver who the boss is. Why not ticket zigzagers and tailgaiters?

Sometimes its the townships or counties that depend on tickets because they are too deadbeat to have local businesse generate enough tax revenue.

Who else feels this way.

I was once ticked three times in the same 1 mile strech of road within 18 months. I was never risking anyone including myself. I never bought anything from that county. Not even gas. If they are going to rob me of my money in tickets, they are sure not going to get my business.

  1. Don't let anyone tell you that writing speeding tickets is any thing but way to make money. here's proof. If it was about safety then the fine would be 5000 bucks for speeding. You'd not speed again. But the fine is maybe a hundred bucks so you'll pay that and speed again and they'll catch you again. Same with red light cameras. Make the yellow stay yellow for one second longer and tests have shown that the incidence of running redlights drops and the chance of rear end collisions also fall off. However many jurisdictions are encouraged to shorten the length of time the yellow light is on to increase the chance of you're running the light hence increasing your chances of getting a ticket and generating more money for the county or city.

  2. wishful thinking--but sorry the anwer to your question is generally NO

  3. No they are just catching speeders

  4. agreed.

Here in NYC, they have enough tax money that we almost never get speeding ticket.  But way out in Long Island, they have speed traps everywhere.  It is LITERALLY hwy robbery.  The cops have become the hwy robbers.

I would NOT complain if the speeding is legit.  But in some roads, as your travel from town to town, the speed limit goes up and down (over and over) and there's a cop literally hiding few feet from the sign - just waiting for the first out of towner.

    ===

If they are really interested in safety, they should post the signs clearer and make agreements with neighboring townships so people can really OBEY the law easier.

    Good Luck...

  5. Well, I do know that Police are there to uphold the laws. If you are speeding, then you are SPEEDING and run the risk of getting a ticket................

Oh yeah, the cops play their little games. After all, they are bored to death driving around in their cruisers all day and have to have some frivolity in their day.

I don't know that any official would admit to your claim that police officially collect money for the town coffers.

If you were tickete three times in the same one mile stretch of road in 18 months, I would suggest that you apply some "self-discipline" and keep your money in your wallet?

  6. Yes and no............yes they do pick out some cars but no if you are speeding then you need to be stopped and ticketed.

  7. What a bunch of baloney.

  8. all depends...    if you're not in the 'pack' or, you're driving way over the speed limit and you have a cell phone stuck to the side of your head at the same time, then the cop is going to figure that he needs to get your attention.

in my state, 80 percent of all traffic fines go to the state coffers, earmarked for high school driver's ed programs.  don't know what other states do with the money collected in fines but I have heard of small towns which depend on traffic fines         sucks, but that's how it goes sometimes

  9. that is hilarious!

you got nabbed once, that didn't teach ya, twice, still didn't learn, how bout now?  you still speeding through that speed trap?

but you sure taught them a lesson!!!  I bet, now that you don't shop there, they are really wishing they had left you alone!

  10. Tickets are mainly written to subsidize the jurisdiction they write the ticket for.  Society as a whole (98%) generally just mail the ticket in with their money and call it a day.  I will literally contest every ticket I get, subpoena the cop and see if it's really worth their trouble to see that fine is paid.  Most the time, they don't show.  Yes, they tend to pick the expensive car out because generally that person's time is too valuable to them to fight a small fine.  But when you're a man that makes a hard earned buck like myself ... you're going to have to twist & break my arm before I give it up.
