Question:

DO you think people over 70 should be driving?

Maybe they should pass their driving test again at 70. Older people are like children and children are not aloud to drive. Old drivers always make the mistake of hitting the Gas instead of the brake, they get confused.

  1. I think they should have to be tested again, yes.  I mean, your eye sight changes with age, as does your reaction time.  Not all older drivers have problems but many do and, in the interest of safety, they should have to take their driving test again at 70.

  2. They need to retake their driving test, and classes at seventy I think. If they pass on the first try, they're in. If not, get off the road.

  3. I think everyone should periodically have to retake their driving test, more frequently after you reach a particular age. Too many people pick up bad habits, and having them retest will (hopefully) get that to stop.

  4. A quote from my mother driving on the highway: "If you want to go over 40 mph, take a train."

  5. I think that they should be retested around that age. I don't think we should have people on the roads who can't see or can no longer drive due to age.

  6. Funny, there's a debate going on about this on our local news site.  I think they should be re tested every year or two after a certain age.  Not just their sight, but driving period!

  7. Depends on their vision and state of mind.  Otherwise it's called Age Discrimination.

  8. Depends on the person.  Some are spry and sharp at 80.  Some, not so much.  I know 20- and 30- and 40-year-olds who shouldn't drive.

P.S.  Older people are not like children; they don't always mistake the gas for the brake; and some of them can actually spell the word "allowed".

  9. Why not ban everyone under 50 from driving? They have the most accidents.

My preference would be a 3 year non renewable license for everyone, 16 or 90, no difference. Every 3 years everyone would have to take a full drivers exam; written, visual, driving.

  10. I think they should have more frequent testing due to their age but they shouldn't have their liscense taken away by default.  By the way, any bill that would have their liscense taken away will get shut down because they are the larges voting block on the planet.  Good luck taking away those liscense.

  11. look at the ages on this site

  12. Only if they have the sense to drive.

  13. Yes but I think it makes sense to have annual physicals as a requirement.

  14. My grampa always said, "If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk."

  15. Sure why not?  there are more fatal accidents in the 18-21 year group, so I guess if you exclude one group that is the one you should target.

  16. Sure they should drive, just like us, some os us.  I know 70 year old people who work.  And they drive to work.  But just the same I know 70 year old people who should never get behind the wheel of a car.  I also know of some 30 year olds who should not drive either!

  17. you have to be careful about passing these kinds of laws, because you end up with alot of elderly stuck with no transporation.

Also, older people are NOT "like children".....you should have more respect than that....these are the people that built and fought for this country.

Statistically, elderly drivers over 65, are involved in less at-fault accidents than any other age bracket...

  18. And yet it is always the boys from 16 to 35 who get all the speeding tickets and into all the accidents.

I have an uncle who is 77 years old, he was in a motorcycle accident last year, the fault was the teenager who couldn't be bothered to watch where he was aiming his car and came speeding out of a driveway onto a busy street.  That's right, my uncle was on the motorcycle.

Would you appreciated your mobility taken away?

  19. Do you think people over 40 should be driving?

Mental and physical capacity do not directly correlate to age.  Some people will be perfectly capable of driving in their second century, others will be medically unfit to operate a vehicle before they're thirty.  In short, legislation based on age alone is infeasible.

  20. It depends. My neighbor is 80 and she looks like she's 60. She is in great shape and her mind is extremely sharp. Case by case basis.
