  1. Seriously, absolutely none. Except perhaps, in a negative way. Many adverts are patronising to men or insult my intelligence. I wouldn't buy their products.

  2. If an ad ISN'T influencing my behavior then it's not a very good ad. This isn't to say that I am not a thinking, critical consumer. It means that if the marketer/advertiser hasn't done their research and identified what product attributes will appeal most to me and made those qualities front and center in their message, then they're not doing their job.

An ad doesn't always have to generate an immediate sale to be effective. Sometimes, an ad simply has to make the consumer think differently about a product or position a product in the consumer's mind in such a way that when they are in the market to buy that product, that particular brand will be first and foremost in their mind.

Advertising that allows me to form an intelligent decision about a product also affects my purchasing decision.

Bad advertising also effects my behavior: Ads that insult my intelligence or offend my sensibilities have no place in my home or my shopping cart.

I'm not saying that ALL advertising effects my behavior. There is a lot of advertising these days that fails to reach me on either an emotional or a rational level. It's just all noise to me and adds to the "clutter" that advertising people speak about.
