DODGE CUMMINS! Info needed

Question

i need info on how far back the cummins go, the cylinders & gas mileage ratings for them. also HP & (more importantly) torque ratings! will best answer for most detailed! 10 pts!

well I am not sure what you want to know as far as how far back the cummins go if you mean years they have been around for a long time like 1910 or 1920 or so not sure all the cummins diesels in the dodge trucks are inline 6 cylinders and depending on the year of the truck depends on the power I have a 2001 automatic it has 235 hp and 450 foot pounds of torque the 2001 manual trans were high outputs and had 245 hp.  when they first put the cummins in the dodge they were 12 valve engines in 1998 they did a half year 1998 was 12 valve and 1998 1/2 were 24 valves up to 2002 then the 3rd gen trucks i beleave are still 24 valves but they are called common rails because the 12 and 24 valves have inection pumps and the new trucks are different the injectors share a common fuel rail so they refer to them as common rails so you know which generation you are talking about the 12 valves never had more then like 200 hp from the factory but started with like 160 and increased over years until the changed to 24 valves then 245 was the highest power on 2nd gen trucks and it is more now with the 3rd gens i think they are up to like 400 or better horse power and like 650 foot pounds on the new trucks but i don't now exact numbers.  If you are thinking of buying one and want to know about reliability cummins has been makeing they same engine for years and they know what they are doing and the engines are easily good for 300000 plus miles if you have any more specific questions you can feel free to ask and I will do my best to anwser your questions.  Oh yeah cummins get like 17-20 mpgs and with an aftermarket programmer i have heard of guys getting like 22-24 mpg best diesel on the market in my opinion thats why I have one and love it they are torque monsters will tow anything
