  1. This is really neat idea, to make soap at home. I might try it too! it sounds as neat hobby and you can give your own homemade soap bars to friends and family.

Here is result of googling the question

and here is one recipe that I found:

    Good luck!

  2. Baking soda w/ vinegar is a great cleaner for your drains. It foams up and clears minor clogs. I don't know what else that combination can do. I do know that vinegar itself is a good cleaner (in a spray bottle) and that baking soda is a bit abrasive so it's good for removing crud.

Homemade dish soap? I don't think there's such a thing. You would need gelatin or something I believe.

  3. Are we talking for handwashing or for a dishwasher?

Baking soda and vinegar work great to clean, but you would need to use them separately.  The chemical reaction will completely kill their effectiveness.  I don't see how it could hurt to try--I'd lean towards the baking soda for dishes, just make sure to rinse them well because the baking soda can leave a residue (it won't hurt you, obviously, but it's not pretty!)

A website suggested a combination of borax and baking soda for an automatic dishwasher, which white vinegar in the rinse agent dispenser.  All of the recipes for dish soap for hand washing that I've seen have included some sort of "soap" but are cheaper to make than buying commercial liquids.  A recipe!

    # 1/4 cup soap flakes

    # 2 cups hot water

    # 1/4 cup glycerin

    # 1/2 teaspoon lemon essential oil

    1) In bowl combine soap flakes and water and stir until the soap is dissolved. Cool to luke warm.

    2) Stir in the glycerin and the essential oil, leave to cool. AS it cools it will form a loose gel. Stir with a fork and break up the gel and then pour into a narrow-necked bottle. An old shampoo bottle makes an excellent container.

    3) To use, squirt 3 teaspoonfuls into hot running water.
