  1. Please go to this site:

    https://iris.va.gov/scripts/iris.cfg/php...

  2. Check with department of aging for the state/county where your parents live.

  3. My cousin works for a company called," Home Instead." She comes in 4 hours a day to help an 93 year old man get his meals and clean up around his place. She has gotten him back on his exercise bike for 10 min. a day and takes him to his doctors for check ups.

It is a franchise business so they are in several states.

  4. Usually communities have some kind of Elderly helpline or Elderly organization to assist you with getting help for your parents. I live in a state in which if the elderly has what the State calls--"Capacity"(the ability to make decisions for themselves), then ultimately, it will be up to them to accept the help or not.

Now, if they do not have the ability to make decisions for themselves, then we are talking something totally new.......I use to work Elderly abuse investigations for my state, so I know this kind of situation can get extremely sticky.

*are your parents in danger in their current living situation?

*why do you feel they can't take care of themselves?

*has a doctor said that your parents don't have the ability to make decisions?(that's important)

  5. Check with social services and medicare, there are day care programs.

or you might check them into an assisted living complex where a nurse is alway on call and they can move into areas in the complex when they need extra help.

  6. outside of medicare paying for nursing homes that is all i know about --your father can go to the old soldiers home in washington dc!!!

  7. It takes a lot of time (almost like working a 2nd full-time job) taking care of elderly parents that placing them in the right senior type facility if family is not around to help is best but obstacle is their pensions and income flow...but if too much, then it has to come from savings.

Problem/concern with elderly from personal experience is once they fall and injure badly, things can go quickly if they don't try hard enoiugh during rehabilitation/physical therapy.

In Virginia where I am located, it is best to go to county website where your parents live and look at their AGENCY FOR AGING point of contacts to find out what senior citizen housing is available.

Hope the Above Helps and Best of Luck!
