  1. It really depends what you want, do you want a big nice dog, big protective dog, etc.

  2. My father owned a labrador cross German Shepherd.  And it was a fantastic dog, highly clever, but never vicious.  He used to dive in the sea, and people came around for miles to see him.

He used to let himself out of the house, opening the door and shutting it behind him.

I've always wanted another one - they were specially bred, by the way.

  3. I have a german shepherd mixed with an australian shepherd. She is the best dog ever. Looks exactly like a german shepherd.

She is not vicious. She is playful, and medium sized.

  4. Why would you want to get a German shepherd cross??

(Sorry, so obvious I couldn't resist)

Frankly I don't agree with messing with breeds, there is always the risk of the pups taking the worse traits from their parents. Most on here say they are wonderful but not all of them are, they get kinda mixed up what they re meant to be.

Get a pure bred and bring it up right.  You know what your getting then.

Why do you want a cross anyway?

  5. I had a Rottwieler -German Shepard cross, she was the best dog ever. Very kind and gentle, yet very protective. Great with children and anyone else she knew should be around. I lost her 4 years ago and still miss her everyday.

  6. A good cross for a German Shepherd would be:

A German Shepherd - can't improve on perfection!

Seriously, a Lab is probably the best cross but you can't predict anything with a cross and it depends very much on the individual parents. If they weren't good examples of their respective breeds, physically or mentally you'll have problems with the offspring.

You may get a dog that looks one hundred percent GSD & behaves like a Lab or looks one hundred percent  like a Lab but behaves like a GSD - or anything in between.

  7. probably a german and a lab. I work in a dog kennel/ veterinary hospital and all of the Shep/lab mixes are really nice. They are not too common but the ones i have interacted with have all been really nice and playful! Good Luck!
