  1. Unless you're of an actual tribe or of an ancient people and raised within their eccentric culture that differentiate from common mainstream ways, then I doubt you're of an earthly connection.

People who say "I am a child of..." have probably adapted to a certain belief system that, with practice and influence, have changed their way of thinking.  Religions are like schools.  The more you go, the more you're around those kind of people and are able to relate to those people and solving your own problems through the adaption of THAT religion's solutions, the more you conform to the ideas of that religion or way.

You have to be wary when someone says they've been appointed by a higher power b/c if you look at Christianity, it is commonly believed that you have to be called upon by God, but most preachers and priests were perhaps not called by God and just believed in such due to their overwhelming sensation felt by their religion that when they think about their deity and start trying to philosophize about their religion, they can come to the conclusion that they themselves are being called due to perhaps them wanting to help others, or perhaps because they look to their deity with questions and sorta answer them themselves.  A true leader of a specific religion or culture would never just say "I was called upon," because to be a leader of a religion or culture means completely selflessness and self-sacrifice to the extreme.

Also, if you look at cults, they always have a persuasive leader that understand human psychology and how to deal with people effectively enough to break down the person's spirit and control them through special techniques according to the person.  Take for an example, a 15 year old orphan.  The cult leader embrace the charge of being a father or mother figure in that child's life, offers him/her comfort through social status, material things etc. and make them feel important enough to be socially acceptable by THAT society.  The orphan, in turn, offers the cult's leader a willingness to change and how that change comes about is where the cult leader does his magic. A person willing to change is the most dangerous because they are offering YOU power to change them in a certain way. It's like raising a child.

There is no real way to tell whether people are truly called or a child of a certain way, because you also have to factor in their own personality, the fact that most religions or ways often insist upon helping others thereby one could easily make the mistake of believing in a person who claims to be a person of a calling simply because they are so forgiving, gentle, and willing to love anyone and everyone.  You can almost see a glow about them, but in reality this person is human.  He isn't perfect.  He can only teach you.  You shouldn't put all your faith in this person more so than the philosophy you and he believes.

    Hope that helps.
