  1. the ozone layer helps protect us from U V raya and if you stretch the point it helps burn up meteors

  2. The ozone layer protects us from UV radiation.  The gases in our atmosphere is what protects us from meteors, due to frictional forces as a meteor slams into our atmosphere at high speeds.  Certain chemicals we put into the air can deplete the ozone, such as CFC's.

  3. No. It saves us only from ultra violet rays

  4. Most meteors burn up far above the ozone layer.  If a meteor survives that long then the ozone layer will help burn it up more, not because of any special property of the ozone, simply its property of having mass, and so providing friction.

Ozone provides good protection from ultraviolet rays.  Too much UV causes sunburns  and skin cancers. Even worse higher mutation rates.  Since almost all mutations are bad high UV is bad .

The main cause of ozone destruction has been through chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's).  It used to be used widely in many industrial processes and used as a common refrigerant fluid in, of course, refrigerators.  It has a high capacity to pick up heat and a high capacity to release it, making it ideal for cooling systems.  But it does have a high capacity for destroying ozone.

International accords controlling and restricting the use of CFC's have been very successful in combating the ozone destruction.  The ozone hole still exists and sometimes expands but the program is thought to be one of the most successful environmental recoveries on the international scale.

  5. Not directly, but it is part of our atmosphere, which is what protects us from most meteoroids.

Ozone can be diminished when chlorine and other chlorine compounds interact with ozone and break it up.  This in turn can allow for a higher amount of ultraviolet radiation from the Sun to reach the surface.
