Question:

DOL Instruction Permit?

I have a valid Indian Drivers license & International Driving Permit. I want to get a WA DL. I went to the DOL & appeared for the knowledge test, which I passed. The lady at the counter asked me if I knew how to drive. When I said yes, she booked an appointment for a driving test.

Now, seemingly because I can drive, I was not issued an instruction permit. I would like to know if driving schools can train you without an instruction permit but with a valid IDP.

The school I approached asked me to get an instruction permit first. Is it really necessary?

  1. You should have been issued a permit when you passed the knowledge test. I would return to the DMV and speak with someone there about receiving one.
