If you give 2 weeks notice and your job makes you leave that day do they pay you the last 2 weeks? ?

I have been told this but where do you find it written? Is it a law. or just courtesy?

  1. no, they don't have to pay you if your not working.  Most companies want you to stay until your last day.  As a matter of courtesy, some companies will pay you if they ask you to leave early.

look at it the other way, would your work overtime for free?

  2. yes, it's law in Ontario anyway..they have effectively terminated you without notice and must pay you in lieu of notice

  3. not in most states - when you give notice, be prepared to have them tell you to leave that day - they don't want to risk employees taking company info with them or sabotaging the computer systems

  4. You don't get paid for work you don't do. That's the law.

The only exception to this is if you have a written agreement to be paid regardless of whether you show up to work or not.
