DP Championship well on course, says European Tour
A European Tour team, headed by David Garland, inspected the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the DP World Tour Championship. David Garland, the Director of Tour Operations, and Deputy Director of Tour Agronomy Graeme MacNiven were given a detail
overview by the Mark Tupling who is the course superintendent at Earth Course.
After a detailed inspection the European Tour announced that DP Championship is well and truly on course and the top-sixty players will come face to face with each other in the desert.
The glorious and magnificent Earth Course is designed by none other than Greg Norman.
Garland and Graeme, who keeps visiting the courses around the globe, expressed that this tournament will be tough, as the conditions would be unfamiliar.
The DP Championship has a total prize money of $8 million and the tournament will be held from 22-25 November.
“Mark and his team at Jumeirah Golf Estates do a magnificent job getting the Earth course into championship shape and having it peak at the right time,” said Garland.
Garland was full of praise for Mark Tupling. Tupling has done a wonderful job in maintaining and preparing this course.
“Mark is in charge of the course and is a highly skilled superintendent with Ryder Cup experience at the highest level. We are here to help him and his team achieve the goals we set at the start of the year and perhaps bring ideas we have learned elsewhere
on the Tour”.
He added, “With Jumeirah Golf Estates as our partners it is our job to provide a tough, fair test as well as a venue that can be showcased to television viewers around the world”.
The golf course will close down on October 14 for the members, till the time the tournament concludes. This step is being taken to prepare the course for the highest of standards.
However, once the race to Dubai is over, members will continue to enjoy the championship experience at the Earth Course till May.
Tupling has really done an amazing job so far. Growing plants and maintaining greens in such alien conditions is a pretty tough ask. So far Mark and his team has been spot on.
