DPR Korea sweeps Vietnam in 16th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship match
The DPR Korean team had a match with the Vietnamese on September 22 in Tehran, Iran, where the 16th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship is currently being staged. The match acted as the qualifier for the 5th-6th position contest
to be played a day later. Once both sides got started with their play, it did not take very long for a victor to emerge as the DPR Koreans were able to make a clean sweep over their opponents.
Despite the fact that the Vietnamese lost the match in three back to back sets, they did not go down without putting up a fight. After a sluggish first set on the part of the Vietnamese, they gave the DPR Koreans a tough time in the second as well as the
third set but the Koreans were able to manage a last minute effort that gave them the game at the following final set scores: 25-18, 25-23 and 27-25.
The first set of the match started off with forceful play from both sides but before long the DPR Koreans managed to propel themselves forward and take the lead at 8-2 with the coming of the first technical time out. The Vietnamese kept on the trail but
the improved setting and attacking skills of the Koreans enabled them to extend the lead to 22-12. Vietnam managed to exert more effort on the attacking side but by then the Koreans were safely heading for a 25-18 win.
The Vietnamese did not let the loss of the first set of the game bother them as they were able to come out strong in the second set and took the lead early on at 9-4. DPR Korea was not about to give up the chase and they eventually tied the score at 12-12.
The match was tight from then on but the Koreans secured another set win at 25-23.
The third set saw the Vietnamese take the lead at 8-4 but the Koreans tied the frame at 11-11. The match reached another tie at 21-21 and after a tough battle, the DPR Koreans managed to seal the deal on the game at 27-25.
The highest scorer in the match was the DPR Korean player, Jong Jin Sim, who was able to tally a total of 24 points for her team. Sim was helped by her team-mate Kim Yong Mi who was able to make her presence felt by adding 11 points of her own. On the Vietnamese
side, the most active player was its captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa as she was able to put up 14 points in behalf of her team. Hoa was followed by her team-mate Pham Thi Kim Kue who scored 12 points for DPR Korea.
