Chief executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Haroon Lorgat, feels disappointed over the inconsistent usage of the Decision Review System (DRS) in international cricket.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Lorgat conceded that ICC's inefficiency to implement the DRS' consistent usage in international cricket has been a major disappointment for boards and players who support it.
"... We have not achieved uniformity or consistent application of the Decision Review System (DRS) even though a vast majority of the players would like to have it," the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 chief executive said in an ICC media release on Saturday.
The contentious Decision Review System is making rounds in international media since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan’s controversial dismissals during Australia’s first innings in last week’s Boxing Day Test against India. Both the batsmen were adjudged out
by the on-field umpires, but both the decisions were refuted by TV replays.
The ongoing Test series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in the latter’s backyard, compromises on the usage of DRS, given India’s strong opposition to it. Australia was in favour of having DRS in this home series, and in this regard the CA held a number of meetings
with the BCCI. However, the Indians strongly declined the request criticizing the technology for its glitches.
Lorgat termed 2011 as an exceptional year for the under-fire Test format; however, he expressed his disappointment over the postponement of the World Test Championship, which will now be held in 2017, instead of 2013.
"Notwithstanding, it has been an exceptional year with Test cricket coming to the fore very strongly. I think it has well and truly confirmed its place in the hearts and minds of players and fans who continue to enjoy it," the release stated.
"I referred briefly to the Test Championship and my disappointment that we did not agree to 2013 being the inaugural year and instead postponed it to 2017."
Another major low point of the year, according to the ICC CEO, was the jail sentence to the Pakistani trio - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418, Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Amir - after being found guilty of spot-fixing. However, he hoped that the decision will have long-lasting
positive impact on the game.
