Russ drives 72 miles, has a flat tire and no spare, and walks 4 miles to a gas station. His

driving rate was 12 times faster than his walking rate. If Russ spent 2and 1/2 hours driving and walking,

at what rate did he walk

  1. 76 miles/ 2.5 hours = 30.4 miles per hour

    His driving rate is 12 times faster than his walking rate.

    30.4 mph/12 = 2.53 mph (walking rate)
