  1. eat pudding and mashed taters for a week. and don't drink through a straw. and when you start eating for real, gargle with salt water after eating.

  2. Don't suck on anything.....straws, cigarettes, etc.

  3. 1. DONT use a straw

    2. Don't spit

    3. Dont swish when you rinse, just move your head around slowly

    4. Don't chew for a while, and nothing sharp or too hard

    5. Stay hydrated and get your nutrients so you heal faster

    6. Don't lie flat the first night, that lets the blood pool which is bad, prop up your head with lots of pillows

    7. Rinse (but see #3)

    8. RELAX

  4. Okay, I just got my last two wisdom teeth out today and last time, about a year ago, I did get dry socket.  Best advice, and learning from my past lessons:

    1. Don't do that much talking for awhile.

    2. Don't eat solid foods too soon or anything that could get stuck in the area (like rice, cookies, cake, you get the picture)

    3. Watch your gauze, keep it clean.

    4.  According to my doctor, with Indiana Oral Surgery, you should not spit or use a straw for at least 3 days.  You should not even begin the salt water rinsing until tomorrow.  He says its better to swallow today that rinse anything out.

    5. Take it easy, regardless of how great you feel for the next few days.  Its a fraud!!  Trust me!!

Good Luck, because dry socket was the WORST experience ever, take it seriously.

  5. it does hurt very bad. Dry socket is loosing the blood clot in the hole. Be very careful with drinking.  Do not suck on a straw for 24 hours.  do not smoke (if you do) be careful with your tongue in the areas.do not spit for 24 hours. If you are having bleeding keep the pad the doc put in in place as long as possible.  your dentist should have given you instructions fallow them to the T.  you should be okay it depends on how big the teeth were etc. rinse like the dentist suggests. If you do get dry socket return to the dentist they will be able to help with the pain and healing.

  6. Keep changing your gauze when they get soaked, and continuously rinse your mouth with water (sometimes salt water helps, also).  Don't rinse hard, and don't spit!!  (Let it fall out- gross, I know.  Been there.)

Drink a lot of water (keep some at your bedside tonight).

And good luck when the drugs wear off!

  7. Don't drink through a straw!!
