Question:

DSL Disconnects every 15-20 minutes?

A few days ago, i opened Firefox to find it going horribly slow. It took at least 1 minute to open a very basic page such as google, images took an extra 15-30 seconds to download. Even cached sites took their time to load.

Windows then popped up stating that my computer's IP address was conflicting with another IP address on the same wireless network. I read a few articles and used the command prompt to change my IP address.

I turned the computer on today, and had speedy internet. Fabulous!

..now my DSL cuts out every 15-20 minutes. It goes down for about 1-2 minutes then it connects again, for another 15-20 minutes.

What can be done to fix this? The fault appears to be in my main PC because the MAC and Laptop on the same network are functioning without any error at all.

Any help is appreciated! :)

  1. you need to set up dhcp on the router, and then ensure every machine has its' tcp/ip information set by dhcp. Your dsl can NOT be cutting out, or the other machines would have the same problem. If this is a wireless network, and you do not have encryption turned on, it is possible someone is using your connection and causing these problems. NEVER use wireless without encryption.

  2. call ur internet provider and ask them wtf is going on,

Last time when i called BT saying that i wanna my mac code as I'm planning to leave them coz my internet is slowing down and some more bla bla bla, they gave me L5 discount every month and my internet speed's up next day and i never ever had problems with it

be assertive, don't let them **** u up

  3. Make sure your computers are always on a different ip address but similar. Also if you are using a router to give internet, routers are the ones that mostly fail and not the internet. Answer back if you have a router.

  4. ur router might need a firmware update or ur wifi card might need a update ---u didnt give much info --- but i checked for a update on my linksys router--- ans solved the same problem ur haveing --- look in ur event log  -- it will show u when u loose the connection -- than look on google for the error code---hope that  helped u some

also check with ur provider to see if the a working on the system in ur area
