I have verizon DSL and had verizon phone service. today we switched our phone service to Charter and now our internet isn't working. I didn't think these two were related. Do we have to get Charter internet now?

  1. Some phone companies have a tariff that does not allow you to have their DSL service without having their dial tone.  Other do though.  I suggest conacting Verizon and ask them about your DSL.  Maybe there is just a trouble on the line.  If the account has been disconnected inquire about getting DSL over a "dry pair", which is basically DSL over a cable pair that has no or suspended dial tone on it.  If they won't let you do it then yes, you will be forced to get your broadband from another source.

  2. DSL technologies provide digital data transmission over the wires of local telephone network. So if you do not have Verizon phone service then you can't get their Internet either. Yes, now you have to get Charter Internet.
