  1. Yes, you can create a wireless network.

The Cable Modem outputs with an Ethernet (Cat5) cable.

The Router then accepts that cable as the internet input (the WAN jack - looks like an extra big phone jack.).  Connect a Cat5 cable from the Cable Modem to the Router's WAN jack, and if you set up the router correctly (refer to D Link's manual), you can have a wireless network with the DI-624 router.  The router setup screen looks like a browser window in Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you prefer).

Follow the the instructions from D-Link though.  Please see the link at the bottom.

Regarding your 5 ports:  Cool.  The WAN port is for connecting to the Cable Modem.

The 4 LAN ports are for connecting other machines, such as other computers, to your network by using wires.  For example, if you have a desktop computer than stays in one place, you can run Cat5 cable from a Router LAN port to that computer.  That computer can then surf off of the same cable internet service.

The LAN ports have nothing to do with the wireless function.  The antennae of the Router box do broadcast a signal throughout the house.  Then some other computer, for example: a laptop with wireless adapter, can receive that signal and surf using your cable internet service.
