I just installed DSL right, and my first bill is $230. why is that? well, i got charged $200 for installation, but the catch is, we never got it installed by a dsl person. we werent home, so they left a notice and i called them back, but they never called back. I even left a message and installed the thing myself... When I got my bill, I got mad, so I called ATT, right and they said that i get charged $200 for him just being there, but cmon, that person didn't install anything because i installed it... Aint he suppose to provide me the service before I can pay him.. it was $200 for installation fee, the person didn't even install anything... but that sucks, i'm paying ATT for nothing...

Has this happened to anyone else before? And what are your thoughts on my situation? I feel I'm the one being cheated here...

as of now, i have not paid it, should i, or will the consequences grow bigger if i fight this?

  1. if the tech never entered your house, and did NOT install your modem and register your account and verify you could surf on your pc (or his laptop, if you had pc trouble), you did not receive the service for which you were charged.

  2. Calm down..... just because you dont see it don't mean work isn't being done.

Sometimes it takes several hours to get dsl to work at a house. You have to check the cable pair to be sure it's clean. sometimes having to dig up a splice to cut bridge taps off which would be like a fork. handle is all pairs then they all also travel down 4 different roads, you have to cut off the other 3 roads so your pair only goes to you.... so yes there can be a lot of work done to get dsl working, not to mention the assigners the co tech gas, truck tools man power to get this all done.... but you want it free, ok so you had to plugg in a modem :( and you feel you did all the work... but .....no  you didn't.  what do you do for a living, do your job free for a change... thats the problem with the economy everyone wants stuff free..... pay your bill or they will simply turn it off. you think they actually care if they loose 1 customer...come on..... but now thats whats wrong with businesses these days..... and is also hurting the economy........but yes I'd pay the bill if you want to keep service.......better yet if you live in a verizon fios territory I'll set you up on fiber.......
