Question:

DSL goes out 50 times a day, please help?

I get the blinking DSL light, and when I pick up the phone to get a dial tone it works again. Sometimes I have to unplug my router as well. Also, my internet speeds when connected is very slow. I've called the phone company and they don't see any problems with the phone line. There is also minor static on my phone line at times, like an in and out crackle noise.

I'm really getting fed up with having to constantly pick up the phone to get back online.

Anyone have any ideas here? Thank you

  1. Did the phone company give you the little filter boxes to put in all your phone jacks. These are to protect the DSL signal from the phones themselves. Also, the first troubleshooting step in DSL is usually to disconnect all the phones in your house and then see if the problem recurrs. You might have one misbehaving phone that can cause these problems.

    Of course, it could also be that your DSL line is crud too. Try these other tests to prove to yourself the problem isn't inside the walls of your house. Then if it still continues, call them again and raise royal heck.
