I'm thinking of buying a Sony DSLR A200 camera. It won't be for a while have to save up lol

I'm new to photography and I want to start of with a half decent camera preferably a DSLR type. I don't really like digi cams.

Anyway I just want to know would this be ideal for me? And what are other good cameras that would be worth while me buying? Plus, is the Sony DSLR A200 a good camera? I havn't made my mind up if it is going to be too expensive yet lol Thanks for your help.

  1. A really good review of dSLR at Popular Photography magazine this month that might interest you.

  2. I'd be tempted to check out the Nikon D80, as there is a newer model coming out in September you'll be able to get the d80 body pretty cheap compared to what it used to be. Maybe around the £350 mark...

Keep a look out... but my personal preference for DSLR is definitely Nikon which ever model you get.

  3. I just bought an A700 Sony and love it.  It has way too many settings and features but takes amazing pictures!!!

I do agree with above poster that many Sony products often break down right about the warranty time.  But in this case the Sony SLR camera's are actually "Minolta" camera's because Sony bought them out. (btw all the Sony SLR lenses interchange with Minolta lenses)

    You'll love your A200

  4. One thing to remember when buying a DSLR, is will you still want to keep with that model/make for a long time ??

I have 2 Pentax DSLR's, and any Pentax 'K' mount lens made in the last 40 years will fit, as Pentax keep with the same mount, which also helps when buying extra lenses.

Also, the lens mount on the Pentax is metal, where most, or all other manufacturers use plastic, inc Nikon and Canon, so that is something you need to think about.

Message me if you want more info or would like to see examples of my work.

  5. Stay away from sony cameras, they only last about a year and then they start craping out.

Check out the nikon SLRs and also look up Canon SLRs.

Great cameras and they have many different kind of filters and lens.

  6. Cameron B: words of wisdom bro!

If you want to do anything other than the most light duty work, stay well away from anything other than Canon and Nikon.  I am also a Nikon fan, having owned five Nikon DSLR's (currently have a D300, a D3 and a D700).  For similar money you can walk away with a Nikon D60 or even a D80, and have access to superior lenses and accessories, but also the camera body is better built and better sealed: this is very important in these days of digital cameras.

Don't let your concern about digital become a reality by getting something second rate.
