DSU Hornets kicks off the regular season on Friday – Volleyball News
The Delaware State University (DSU) women’s volleyball team is set to kick off the regular season on Friday, August 24, 2012.
The DSU Hornets will enter the 2012 season under the command of experienced coach Renee Arnold, while the team roster is composed of ten players. Edarkis Branch, Jasmine Jackson, Alena Jung, and Jessica Russell-Croucher will be attached with the team as
outside hitters (OH). DSU will have two middle blockers in the form of Laisha Davis and Brooke Redmon, whereas Sonya Inderbitzin will take the role of defensive expert (libero). Natalia Mendieta and Christobel ‘Bel’ Fakaosi will play as setters in the team.
The 2012 schedule of Hornets will feature a total of four tournaments before the start of conference matches. DSU ladies will travel to Wilmington N.C. to participate in the first tournament of the year from August 24-25. The UNCW Courtyard Wilmington Beach
Bash will be attended by teams from Long Island, DSU, High Point, and the hosts UNC Wilmington.
The thrilling action of volleyball will continue and the Hornets will take a road trip to Easton, Pa. Lafayette College Tournament will be featured as the second tournament of the season. DSU Hornets will cross ways with Lafayette Leopards, Fairleigh Dickinson,
and Saint Peter's respectively. The two-day tournament will cover its length from August 31 to September 1.
Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldog Classic will be another tough challenge for Hornets that will take centre stage on September 7. Teams from Delaware State, hosts Gardner-Webb, UMKC and Charlotte will come into stride with the Hornets.
Eventually, the DSU volleyball team will return home after three tournaments. Hornets will play at home on September 15. La Salle and St. Francis (Pa.) will be featured as guest teams in the competition.
Thereafter the DSU Hornet will enter the conference phase. Renee Arnold, the head coach of DSU Hornets, shared his views about the 2012 schedule. He especially stressed the importance of conference matches. He stated: "Like previous years, we have a competitive
non-conference schedule that includes tough opponents. Facing this caliber of competition should propel us into conference play as we make our run to a MEAC championship."
