DT Jason Babin signs with Jacksonville Jaguars to replace injured D’Anthony Smith – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey has backed joining of defensive end Jason Babin off the Philadelphia Eagles’ waivers hoping he will help revive the league’s worst pass rush.
The Jags with only 13 sacks are at the lowest position in the league and Mike calls Babin decision a right move, weighing the player as capable to sparkle the sluggish pass rush of the team.
As per contractual terms, the team will pay $1.69 million in the remaining salary of the player for 2010 and adjust him on the roster as they have placed DT D’Anthony Smith on injured reserve list. He has suffered a concussion and neck injury.
Coach Mike said:
"It's a good pickup. He's had a lot of success over the last three years and we could use some help in that area. He'll fit what we're doing. Joe Cullen and he have a relentless type of mindset. I just think it's going to be good for us, really good for
us."
He added:
"We've got five games and we're trying to win these games. It's a sign that we're trying to show our team that we're trying to win right now, that this is not `play the young guys and do the evaluating.' We're doing whatever we can to improve."
The Jags won their last game versus the Tennessee Titans, although committed many mistakes, and now aim to ride on the momentum to record a few more victories. They have five more games to go and if they are able to win another couple, they should be able
to improve from their last record.
With their main offence leader, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, out with an arm injury, Chad Henne has led the team rather well. He helped the side for the first win versus the Titans after consecutive losses. The coach is hopeful the quarterback has the capability
to help bring in more success.
It is one of the worst seasons for the team. Even last season, they managed five victories but this year, for the first time under new owner and new coach, the team has never found the previous form.
