DT Kellen Heard back in Buffalo Bills squad for Minnesota Vikings’ game – NFL News
Coach Chan Gailey has confirmed defensive tackle Kellen Heard has made himself available for selection into the squad for Buffalo Bills’ game against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday.
The confirmation from the coach has come after the test results proved to be negative, which could have ousted the player for a longer period of time with a leg injury. Kellen is now out of the danger or risk of facing a serious blow as according to the
scan results it is only a minor scare.
Most importantly, the player took to the field with teammates on Wednesday and was seen taking a part in the entire training programme. He looked to be hundred percent and comfortable in his plays.
Chan made the announcement of the player’s availability, apparently excited about early return. Heard’s absence for any longer period of time could have exposed Bills’ defence. The coach has aimed to maintain the right balance at all positions.
It is the preseason time and most teams use it as a phase of testing and knowing key strengths of each position and player, and try to overcome any lapses well before the start of the season when every game is counted and crucial.
Bills also confirmed that their Wednesday’s training session was closed to public, providing with an opportunity to players to do a focused and coordinated training. It was the last session before Friday’s game.
Overall, Chan has spoken high of players’ fitness except for some minor injury scares here and there. For example, the official confirmed that offensive tackle James Carmon missed the practice with a small wrist injury. He said it was rather a ‘tweak’ and
added that he expected the player to be back into the side for Vikings’ game.
Carmon is an undrafted rookie with the team.
Chan did not elaborate about the prospects of Carmon, if he is going to be retained to be a part of the team’s 53-man squad before heading to the regular season.
In most cases, undrafted rookies are made part of practice squads but dumped immediately after training camps. A few of them are able to find through opportunities into the regular seasons and beyond.
