DT Terrance Knighton recovers from eye injury, Jacksonville Jaguars cautious to put him to physical
Jacksonville Jaguars’ troubled defensive tackle Terrance Knighton’s return from an eye injury was a pleasant surprise for the team on the past weekend, the first-ever appearance of the player in the offseason programme since injuring himself while breaking
up a bar fight about a month ago.
Both, the player and the team, are optimistic about his ability to be a regular part of the squad in the near future after the DT confirmed his vision has returned to almost perfect level and the head injury recovered fully.
He said:
"I feel great and I'm just ready to get out there now. The doctor is very happy with the progress, and there's nothing really holding me back now from being out there."
The main step now in front of the player is to pass the physical. The Jaguars have placed him on the physically unable to play (PUP) list and he has to clear physical before being put back at his position.
Apparently, the Jaguars are wary of putting him to the contact physical test straightaway and are rather aiming to wait for a while.
Mike Mularkey, the first-year head coach of the team, said of the player:
"He looks good. I appreciate the efforts he's made to get him to that point. It's taken some work on his part. It's going to take him as much to stay at that level. He's not just going to work up to it for five weeks. He's got to maintain that. That's going
to be harder than what he just did."
It nevertheless is a good development for the team as they already facing absence of Maurice Jones-Drew and Justin Blackmon. The former is on a holdout due to his pressing fresh deal demand and the latter is waiting to get a deal before reporting to the
camp – a mandatory requirement of the National Football League (NFL) for rookies.
Also, it has cleared the uncertainty around Terrance’s pro career prospects, which looked threatened after he was caught in a fight between his friend and a local bar staff. He received cut on his eye and injury on the head, and required stitches to repair
the eye. Luckily, he has escaped the possibility of a legal wrangling, which could have added to the difficulties in the way of his career progression.
