DTS ES and DOLBY DIGTAL EX?

ok why is it that on final destination 2 and final destination 3 the EX sounds way better than the DTS ES ,i thought that DTS ES is suppose

to sound better.oh and has anyone heard the HAUNTING dvd on DTS ES does it sound good

Well technically speaking DTS ES is supposed to sound better.....let me tell you the reason why.

1) DTS in itself uses less compression than Dolby....less compression means higher quality sound. (take mp3's for example.....listen to the same song one compressed at 128 kbps and the less compressed 320 kbps will sound way better)

2) Dolby EX blends the extra surround channel into the 2 rear channels while most DTS ES movies offer a discrete 6th channel.

The only reason that I can think of as to why DTS ES is not sounding as good is if the decoder in the receiver is a cheap 1st generation microchip or something.....I'm not a electronics technician or anything so I can't say for sure....but that's my best guess.
