DTS through HDMI??????????

I have an HDMI cable going form my dvd player to my TV, I have an optical cable going from my tv's optical out to my stereo's optical in. everything is DTS certified will this set up deliver the dts signal from my dvd player through my tv to my receiver?

  1. I would venture to say that if you are playing a dvd and you're getting sound at all out of your stereo, then your connection is working and the DTS would be preserved...but I'm not an expert.


  2. optical should go to receiver only. most tv cannot pass only dolbl y 2.0 much less dts. the decoder on receiver has to be better than tv

  3. Check your DVD player and stereo support DTS processing.  If not, then audio via either optical or HDMI cable will probably be processed and output as Dolby Digital 5.1, usually the default audio for DVD movies.

    Also, you need to change the audio from your DVD's menu from Dolby to DTS once the Disc is inserted, usuallly at the Start Menu for Movie options.  If you do not, the stereo and the DVD player will most likely output Dolby Digital and not DTS.
