  1. Patience!! is very imporent you need to be with it as much as you can. Talk to the duck and call it by name (If you have one)feed it play with it hold it  be gental since this will all be new to it. dont drop the little guy place on ground  and let walk out of hand or arm these babies have to explore ther new grounds.

Ducks are clean, loveing, loyal, amusing, beautiful companions you could ever have.If soft and fuzzy its under 2 weeks If you can feel hard prickly  feathers its between 2-4 weeks If you see feathers its over 4 weeks old and fully feathered its full growen.

These babies need warmth at night for 1st week-10 days If older it will be fine, but needs a nice confined place to rest from weather and predators.

Feed should be chicken starter feed IT MUST BE UNMEDICATED if happen to run out you can give-Crushed cheerios, crushed dog food, crushed cat food, cottage cheese, had boiled eggs, chopped lettce, canned peas, green beans chopped all food should be mixed with a little water for the 1st week or two.

They can drown so water must be placed in a shallow dish If have a baby they dont need food for the 1st 24-48 hours since they will live off the egg yolk still in the stomach witch they have before they hatch out.

Never give feed without water! You can bathe this baby- in warm water  but watch it very close and let it clean its feathers which they do very well and will pull un wanted one as well then let dry or you may blow dry with hair dryer on low heat.

A stuffed toy is very good for the baby-this will be comforting and give it something to cuddle up with and keep warm. This baby Wants and needs to be close to you as much as possible!! It will run away,, When you reach for it!! But that's Only a instinctive of survival move. Go ahead and pick it up but snuggle it guickley  close to you so it will feel safe!!

You must keep kids pets and any thing else away from the duck untile it has time to get use to new surroundings.Best food is with a 14%-16% protein level Need grit so can grind foods (mix some with food not alot). NOT a goog idea to leave out side at night there just are to many predators looking for a late night dinner.

This should be a bond that is instantaneous, powerful and never ending for you!!!! Good Luck and have a great time with the baby

  2. Yeah, our ducks have always been a bit wary of us.  But its a good thing really, means if any mean old duck-nappers come along the ducks will stay clear.  They come to us for food though, they just aren't hanging around our feet all the time (that'd be annoying!)

And give it a few days after they've hatched, they can live off their yolk sac for up to 48 hours and any food will be bad for them at that time.

  3. upto 48 hours. and its good for them to be a bit scared of you as this means that they are a duck!!! please remember that he is a duck and not a toy and he has a life of his own and a personality!
