DUI arrest & release: Rookie WR Justin Blackmon returns to Jacksonville Jaguars -NFL News
Rookie wide receiver, Justin Blackmon, will be available to speak to the media on Wednesday, June 06, Jacksonville Jaguars’ management confirmed.
It will be the first time the player speaks to the media, following his arrest on the DUI (driving under influence) charge, last weekend.
A section of the media reported that Blackmon was present at the team headquarters on Tuesday, June 05, but did not speak to anyone except former Jaguars' star, Fred Taylor.
Later, a message from the management said that the player along with general manager, Gene Smith and head coach, Mike Mularkey, will be available to speak to the media at EverBank Field this Wednesday.
Following the weekend arrest and release on the bond of $1000, the player appeared before a local court on Monday, pleading not guilty to the DUI charge.
Another report claimed the player is less likely to be given the option of entering into a plea bargain.
If he continues to maintain the not guilty plea, the case is expected to proceed for a formal trial in the near future.
It remains unknown how much penalty Blackmon faces, if found guilty of the charge. Any form of punishment will be in addition to disciplinary action from the National Football League (NFL).
A league spokesman has already sounded warning about the possibility to the player, even though he is yet to sign a professional league contract.
The only leniency he could expect from the NFL will be that the disciplinary action will focus more on his treatment and rehab than any practical punishment.
Also, the NFL said to consider the action on only one count of DUI, even though the player has been arrested twice on the same charge in the last two years.
Back with his team, Justin is described to have become very humble – the attitude that Jaguars' management reported favours and supports him.
He is reported to have been argumentative with the police when they stopped him for over speeding, before asking him to volunteer for the test to determine the level of alcohol in his body.
