DUI charge: Jacksonville Jaguars rookie WR Justin Blackmon faces NFL action -NFL News
Irrespective of the fact that rookie wide receiver, Justin Blackmon, has not signed a contract with a National Football League (NFL) franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars in his case, the player’s arrest on the driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol
charge over the past weekend exposes him to a disciplinary action by the professional league regulator.
A report on the NFL.com has quoted the league’s spokesman, Greg Aiello, saying that the player will face the disciplinary action despite even though he has not signed a pro contract yet.
He said the player’s arrest falls within the contravention of the NFL’s drug and personal-conduct policies and the player will face an action from the office regardless of his pro position at the moment.
The website has cited a report from The Florida Union-Times saying that the player might skip suspension. Instead, he is more likely to be placed under the league's intervention programme.
If so, he will likely receive an evaluation and treatment plan, which could be attached to some random testing to gauge his conduct and progress.
Interestingly, the latest was the third arrest of the player under the DUI over the past three years, but according to the league spokesman, Blackmon will be taken to the task on only one count, the latest one.
Jaguars’ management, in the meantime, is quiet on the matter, except for an earlier statement that they were in the process of information gathering on the incident.
Police have reported that Blackmon was stopped in the wee hours of Sunday, June 03, on over speeding to 60 miles per hour in the 35 mph lane.
It was evident from his condition that Blackmon was under the influence of alcohol and on demand by the police agreed to take a breathalyzer test.
The results showed him to be three times over the prescribed limit of alcohol consumption. He was arrested and sent to jail, but later got released on $1000 bond.
He is now due to appear in the local court on Monday, June 04, to face the charge.
