DUI charge: Jacksonville Jaguars rookie WR Justin Blackmon faces court, career uncertainty -NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie receiver, Justin Blackmon, has apologised to his fans, friends and family for driving under influence (DUI) charge, which landed him in jail before being released on $1,000 bond on Sunday, June 03.
Oklahoma police arrested Blackmon on finding him three times over the prescribed limit of alcohol consumption, and he now faces the aggravated DUI charge in Payne County Sheriff Sgt Brandon Ingham.
The player is due to appear before the court on Monday, June 04, which should determine the future course of the case.
Police said that they had stopped the player over speeding to 60 miles per hour in the 35 mph lane. He drove to a couple of blocks before pulling over in a parking lot of a gas station, they said.
According to the police, the player had agreed to take a breathalyzer test, while being completely shaken, not able stand on his feet properly and slurring while speaking.
Under the local law, a person can be charged for this case when a test results in .15 or over. The legal limit of the test is 0.08, but Blackmon blew a .24.
Irrespective of the pending court hearing outcome, Blackmon becomes another Jags player to have landed himself into hot waters.
A couple of weeks ago, defensive tackle, Terrance Knighton, found himself amid a scuffle between his friend and another person at a local night club, which left the player with an injury on his eye.
The management said that they were aware of Blackmon’s arrest and release and were in the process of information gathering to elaborate on the incident.
Jaguars’ spokesman, Dan Edwards, said:
"We are aware of the report and are gathering information. We don't have any comment at this time."
The player reportedly has not signed a contract with the team and his future with the team hangs in balance until there is an otherwise clarification from the team or his agent.
Jaguars picked the receiver in first round of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28.
According to head coach, Mike Mularkey, the player could prove to be a crucial part of their efforts to strengthen their offence. He noted the confidence and independency as to be the particular strengths of the player that the team can benefit from.
