DVD Player NTSC / PAL inter-compatibility

Question

Hello, can you please tell me if Emerson's Portable DVD Player Model PDE2725N with 7" TFT LCD Monitor (LCD-0700E) are inter-compatible to either NTSC or PAL? If so, will the player auto-detect the format and play the DVD, or do I have to switch the format setting manual? I purchased the DVD player in the USA which I believe is Region number 1. Thank you.
