DVD Player doesn't recognize any discs?

Question

I have a Toshiba SD 3990 DVD player that was given to me for free. Now, I see why... Plug it in and it turns on, but when you open it and insert a disc, it says loading for a bit, and then says "no" on the dvd player screen and no disc on the tv.

I looked up the dvd player's owner's manual online and it didn't say anything like this on the trouble shooter's guide.

Can anyone help?

It probably requires a new laser which can be  installed by a professional. You get what you paid for.
