DVD-R file help?

if i download a file that is DVDR does that mean i could burn it and it would work in my dvd player without needing to be converted?

  2. Maybe -- if what is being referred to as a "DVDR file" is an ISO image file (which someone created from a DVD-R).

    If it is an ISO file, it is a bit-for-bit representation of the whole disc as one big file (as opposed to the separate files and folders).

    Most DVD/CD burning software has a way to burn a disc from an ISO image file.

    When it is done, the original disc will be replicated exactly, including re-creating the original file and folder structure.  If the original was a video DVD format DVD-R, the copy should work just as well in a DVD player as the original.
