DVD Rom malfunction

Question

Hi. i got an ACER Travelmate 2430 which is about 2 to 3 years old. I just have it re-formatted. My problem is - its DVD rom which is a Philips SDVD8441 is malfunctioning, it sometime is ok but most of the time, it is some sort of jammed. It won't open. I have to re-boot to open. But it read OK. Do I have to replace it or it need some sort of installing, or what Thanks in advance to you guys.
