Question:

DVD player won't read?!?

My DVD player is barely two years old and has been taken care of very well since then. I just moved into a new place and decided to watch a movie. When I put the DVD in, it wouldn't read it. It just kept saying "loading" and making weird noises like the CD was scratched or something (which it wasn't). Does anyone know how to fix something like this? I'm thinking I might have messed something up when I moved because I never had this problem before!

  1. DVD players are cheap and, unless it is still under warranty, not worth fixing.

However, the problem may be with the DVD disk, or simply the laser is not working as well as it used to due to aging or dust/dirt.

If it is the DVD disk, you will find your player will play other DVDs  that you are certain they are OK.

If it is the DVD player, you may have to clean the lens with one of the various products there are on the market. They don't cost all that much and are widely available and easy to use.

If it is a laser ageing problem, you may find that either doesn't work at all, or it will only play certain DVDs. The best DVDs for playback are the ones you buy as pre-recorded movies, the worst are the ones people record using their computer and cheap DVD blank disks.

So check all these things and if it still doesn't work, you will have to get a new player. The good news is that they are VERY cheap.
