I have the DVD of Elton John's concert for his 60th birthday ordered from Amazon. On the DVD player both discs play in black and white - but on the computer both play in colour. If there was a fault why would it affect both discs?

Can ayone advise?

  1. It's either you have it in the wrong format you need PAL if its region 2 or NTSC if its region 1 you should be able to check on the disc if not sometimes if the scart or 3 wire connections are a tiny bit loose you can have loss of colour/sound etc. depending on which bit is loose

  2. Check whether your TV is set to play dvd's on the av channel in RGB.

With our TV (Panasonic) if you press the AV button on remote twice in succession the picture is B&W but another press gets the colour back.

  3. I bet that they sent you a disc recorded in SECAM, the French colour standard.

Your computer has clever enough software to be able to detect this and play it properly; but your DVD player and tv set will be expecting a PAL signal. They're not as intelligent as a computer so they'll only take notice of the luminance signal so you see a monochrome picture.

Have a look at the label on the case to see if it says PAL or SECAM. Also check the label on the disc itself to see if it's written in French. Someone may have put the wrong disc in the right box.

  4. Make sure you don't have your player set to PAL, and that it is set to nts.

Or other settings of that nature. Let us know what fixed it.

  5. This happened to me, what TV do you have?, all it was for me was a button on the TV i needed to press, the button was under the standby button so when you clicked on that you clicked the other button, it's a silly place to put it!

  6. Do you have this with all disk?? anyway if not its probably to do with the set up on tv. When I had it I googled the tv/dvd player model to find how to fix it. Good luck
