Question:

DVD recorder dilemma?

I've been looking into buying a DVD recorder, but all the built in tuner stuff is getting me confused.

I have digital cable( however might be switching back to DISH).

So far there's two DVDr's that I've been thinking about. One of them is the Philips DVDR3506 with a built in SDTV digital tuner.

The other one is the Magnavox DVD Recorder w/ and ATSC Digital Tuner, ZC352MW8.

What is the difference between the two tuners and which would be a better choice? Do i even need a tuner?

I found these on walmart.com http://www.walmart.com/search/browse-ng.do?ic=20_0&ref=125875.126071+500846.4293843702&fromPageCatId=62055&catNavId=62055

  1. You have to look at the acronyms on the tuners.

    NTSC is over-the-air analog

    ATSC is over-the-air digital

    QAM is digital cable

None of the above will tune from a satellite, but if you have cable, you'll want a QAM tuner for sure.
