Question:

DVD-video burning shutting down computer!?

When I try to burn movies onto a DVD my computer shuts down when it gets to about 80%. I tried using Windows DVD Maker and one other program. It shuts down before it does any actual burning, so about when the video is finished encoding or decoding. Also when my screensaver tries to play movies (it is set to the picture show one) it crashes. I am running Vista and have done all the updates. Thanks!

  1. Are your power settings set correctly

Because DVD burning software usualy has to convert the data first this can take up to 3 hours and if your machine is not being used in this time (mouse not moving) the system will go in to power saving mode which can usually be stand by or sleep.

Try checking the settings and putting them on to always on.

  2. I run vista on my PC and I use Nero. It's a good program and it seems to have no compatibility issues with Vista.

  3. It's a VISTA compatability bug.  Sounds like your Video Card is NOT 100% compatable.  (Maybe the CODEC).  Uninstall the video card software / drivers and see what happens. This is the most likely cause.   VISTA is terrible for these things.  Use XP if possible.  I switched back due to problems with the PINNACLE video software.  It works great now with XP.

Maybe just setting your POWER SETTINGS / SCREENSAVER SETTINGS to always on, with NO screensaver.  It could be this problem.  Don't use the VIDEO SCREENSAVER .  If it comes on, its s******g with the DVD burning.
