My monitor has DVI plug in and the DVD player I have has HDMI. I found a cord that will connect the two, but what I need to know is... Is the cord transmiting both audio and video or just video?

(Cord hasn't been shipped to me yet or I would just plug it in and find out. LOL!)

  1. Just video in DVI, as noted. It is identical in quality to the video signal of HDMI. (Many computer monitors/video cards use DVI to transmit "higher than HD" signals.)

You will need to get a digital audio cable to transmit the surround sound signal to your receiver. Hopefully you have a receiver; some newer TV's also accept a digital audio input but the problem is that they only have two speakers so they only simulate surround sound, not the real deal like a 5.1/7.1 receiver gives. Still, if you don't have a receiver the TV option will work, just not taking full advantage of all that glorious sound!

  2.       DVI is just video.
