Question:

DVR doesn't with Fox anymore?

I have a Directv DVR.

I attempted to record the episode of House that was on after the Superbowl. I think I set it to record an hour before and an hour after to account for the game running long.

The next day I recorded Prison Break and attempted to watch that and the show just "froze" on me. I'd turn the stored show on and all I get is a black screen. This has happened with a few other Fox shows that I tried to record.

Everything else works fine. As far as I can tell, there are no problems with any other channel I record programming from. I can watch everything I record except Fox shows. I can even watch Fox normally in real time, pause, fast forward, rewind. I just get issues when I try to watch their stored programing.

Anyone have heard of this? Any tips on anything I might be able to do myself to fix the problem? Thank you in advance.

  1. I don't have a DVR, but I have a DVD recorder and it does almost the same thing on Fox. It stops recording The Simpsons and says "Signal is copy protected". I'd say the problem is probably with Fox. They're copy protecting everything. They want you to spend $40 on the whole season on DVD. If you have an analog antenna, rotate it until it turns fuzzy. That scrambles the copy protected signal and lets it record. It doesn't look crystal clear, but at least you don't miss your shows!! If it's not copy protection, I can't help you. I also can't help you if you have cable.
