ok i have a motorola dvr from cox comunications and i was wondering if there is any way the get the movies and stuff on there on to my computer the dvr has a usb port in the front why would it be ther it it was not for this reason anyboyd got any sugestions?

  1. DVRs are very protective of their content - copy protection all over the place.

    The USB can be there for many reasons: Play photos from a usb stick, firmware upgrades, etc. Definitely not for copying DVR content.


  2. The Motorola DVRs generally have the USB ports disabled but the FireWire ports on the back are enabled. There is a multi-step process by which you can download content to your computer, completely in the digital domain, via FireWire. I have done this and it works. See the link below.
