  1. you cant but if you have a dual reciever (that means you have 2 tv's and can watch diffrent things on them at the same time) you just set it to record on one tv and watch tv on another. in order to record on tv 2, you need to go to the tv guide by hitting the guide button on the remote. then press the arrow keys until the program you want to record is highlighted. then press the record button and scoll down to "create timer". when you hit that, you should see a little record icon on that program. now when it is time for thar program to come on, no matter what chanell you are on, it will automaticly change to the chanell that is going to be recoded and will start recording. it will ever record stuff when the system is off. i hope this will be helpful in recording things.

  2. See what model receiver you have.  If you have a 501,508, or 510 you have a single tuner.  If you have a 522, 625 or 622 you have a dual tuner.

You do have to have two tuners in order to watch a live program and record another.  All you do is record the program on your second tuner and watch off of the first tuner.  Just press the record button and it will ask if you want to record to TV1 or TV2.

If you have a single tuner you can call Dish Network at 800 333 3474 and they can go thru the upgrading process for you.
