i have Time Warner Cable and have had DVR for about 1 year now. last night i was watching one of my shows that i had previously recorded using DVR. this afternoon i went to record a show and i wasnt able to. so i hit "List" and nothing came up. i then tried to rewind the channel i was on and nothing happened. i was just wondering if this is happening to anyone else or if anyone knows how to fix the problem. i was thinking it had something to do with the thunderstorms last night that we had (columbus, OH).

i tried to reboot the cable box, but that didnt do anything.

if no1 has any solutions, i guess i will just have to call Time Warner and have someone come out but im really trying to avoid that.

thanks

  1. While I've never done repair for a satellite company, it's the same idea. They should just be able to send a signal to your dvr to get it up and running again as we used to do when I worked in cable repair. I would try calling them, it doesn't sound like they'd have to send someone out, they should be able to troubleshoot over the phone.

Now mind you, if you did have thunderstorms...are you getting a message flashing on your dvr when you power it on? If so, the thunderstorms could have also fried your box. Make sure you always keep dvrs/cable boxes on a power bar with a surge protector. This way if lightening hits, the surge protector shuts it off and it doesn't hit the box.

  2. I've had problems like this with my DVR.. it might happen for a day and then be fine afterwards. I've never called Time Warner Cable because I'm too lazy but I'm sure they could help you!

You might not get anyone to help you tonight because they might be closed, so you will probably have to call in the morning. Good luck though!

  3. i work for TW in KY...

    1. try unplugging the power cord from it and plug it back in, this will reset it and it will redownload its infoand re-initialize. This may fix it

    2. call customer service and have them "hit" the box, it may be a simple coding issue in CSG,

    3. the hard drive might be full or defective, so take it to ur office and have it replace or have a tech come replace it

that's pretty much all that can be done

  4. Mine freezes up sometimes too.  Unplugging it for about 5 min works for me.  Otherwise call your provider and ask them to reset it.

  5. Something like this happened to my sister and brother. I guess time warner is changing there systems over.  You need to call them so that they can bring you out new cable boxes.  Good luck!

  6. try turnig the box off for 30 sec. then turn it on after that. that is what time warner cable told my family to do, and it happens all the time, so this must work
