  1. Be aware that some movies/tv shows have copywrite protection on them in the DVR and won't record......

My tivo goes to my DVD recorder.  Just set the record time you want in the menu of the DVD player and just push record.  Right afterwards just push play on the DVR show and your set!

  2. some of the newer dvrs from dish network have usb ports on them (front or back). contact dish network and ask them whether or not your usb port can be activated. this may cost 50 bucks, more or less. if so, you can then connect an external hard drive (any size...i'd recommend at least 500G), and transfer your recordings directly onto the external hard drive.

as far as copying to dvds, just make sure your dvr hooks into the dvd recorder, and THEN into the tv. your dvd recorder has a tuner built into it, so you'll probably need to have your dvd recorder on ch3.  then press play on the dvr, and press record on the dvd recorder, and it will record whatever is on the screen. there's no QUICK way to transfer. you have to wait for the whole show to play in order for it to record.

and unless you're planning on selling those dvd copies, i wouldn't worry at all about copyright laws.
