  1. hi i have two full grown dwarf hamsters and let me tell you, they are soo unpredictable.one day they are nice then the next day the are very mean.right now one of mine is very mean but the other one has been nice for 2 or 3 months now.The only thing i can recommend doing is play with them ten minutes a day every day or more.to do this what i do is i stuff a t shirt under my door so they can`t slip out.and just let them run freely around.(unless u have alot of places to hide.)Then every day they will look foward to running freely and then they will start to bond with you.

what i did when i first got them is try not to take them out and let them come to you instead.Open the cage and let them come to you.

    hope this helps

    love,katie

  2. The most important thing when handling dwarf hamsters is to do it OFTEN and make sure they have a good experience each time.  Even if you are rushed for time, holding him a few minutes whenever you see him awake will lessen the chances of him biting you.

  3. I'm sorry, about your friend. What i would suggest would putting on gloves and then playing with it everyday. I don't have any experience but I am going to get some Chinese Dwarf Hamsters soon so I've been doing research. I guess just be as nice as you can to it and hope for the best!

    Best of wishes!

  4. Give him a chance! Let him get used to you. It doesn't hurt when they bite. My dwarf hamster has only bit me once and it didn't hurt. Don't trade him in when you didn't even give him a chance, that's mean! :'(

  5. Well, when they are in there cage if you stick your fingers in there they may bite because there trying to protect there own home.Always try to pick them up with a tube . like buy a tube like u use  to connect cages and stick it in the hamster cage until they climb in.Then, hold the tube to your Hand.Make sure to put your two hands together and cup them so the hamster feels safe.Try doing that next time, and they shouldn't bite.

  6. trade him in

  7. Yeah i had two dwarf hamsters. I heard somewhere that since they are smaller they are more defensive and bit to protect themselves. You need to play with it everyday so it gets used to you. Your going to get bitten but thats the only way its going to get used to your touch. Also wash your hands after your eating because if your hands smell like food your hamster may mistake your finger for food.

  8. let it get used to u make sure it trusts and is comfortable with you

  9. I think that you should go through the taming process. If he bit your friend than he was scared or angry. Did you wake him up? Did you do something with him that scared him? Dwarf hamsters are a little more high strung so they do bite more often. You just need to get him to trust you. Go through the taming process.

  10. HAHAHAHA, im sorry, i was looking at the questions on the main page and i thought your title said DARFUR HAMPSTER....

    It made me chuckle.....

Anyway the only thing i could think of is to punish it slightly if it bites and reward it when it doesnt when you hold it.
