Daddy Nose Best to take his winning form into the Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita
Cathy Zollars and Robert Zollars owned 2-year-old colt, Daddy Nose Best, has had a troubled debut season when it came to stakes races, but ever since he was dropped down in class, the colt looked like a different runner with a winning personality. Maybe
he still needs time to dwell in allowance/optional claimer races to gain some experience and then take a shot at the big boys running in big races.
However, since his Breeders’ Cup disappointment, where he participated in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and finished sixth to winner Wrote, Daddy Nose Best bounced back in emphatic style and won an allowance race at Churchill Downs three weeks
later.
The win impressed many including Scott Blasi, trainer Steven Asmussen’s assistant. “His last race was very impressive,” Blasi said Thursday. “He had to wait for room and he looked good winning.”
Trainer Steven Asmussen is pointing Daddy Nose Best to another stakes race, this time in the $75,000 Eddie Logan Stakes, run over a distance of 1 mile on turf at Santa Anita Park on 31 December, 2011, a race that is restricted for 2-year-old males.
His connections would be hoping that Daddy Nose Best can parlay that allowance race winning form into his first stakes win in the Eddie Logan Stakes that has reeled in 9, 2-year-old males.
The only concerns for the Kentucky bred 2-year-old son of Scat Daddy, out of mare Follow your Bliss by Thinder Gulch, is the distance in the Eddie Logan Stakes. The juvenile colt broke his maiden over at 1 1/16 miles and he is coming off a win in the 1 mile
long allowance race win.
His connections feel that Daddy Nose Best can top it and can go even further when stamina comes into play.
“I feel good about the horse,” he said. “I’ll be happier when the races get longer. The reason we ran him on the grass is we wanted to run him farther.”
Jockey Javier Leparoux will be aboard Daddy Nose Best in the Eddie Logan, a race that has reeled in two stakes winners in Stoney Fleece and Chips All In.
